Day 107: Welcome to Oregon!

(Mile 1699 to 1727, Callahan's = 28 miles)

Callahan's Lodge right off I-5. A hiker haven!
We are on the green, plush lawn of Callahan's Lodge just outside of Ashland, Oregon.  We do NOT belong here.  But, they let us in the door, fed us a bottomless hiker dinner, gave us our first drink for free, let us shower and launder if we needed, and now we are sleeping on their pristine lawn--all for a minimal fee.  This is a nice place.  Too nice for hikers.  Yet they've thrown open their doors to us.  We were even served by the manager.  He must have a soft spot for us misfits!  We couldn't be more pleased with the short detour.

Our campsite for the night. They lulled us to sleep with classical music.
It is LATE, so I won't write much.  But Southern Oregon is very pretty, and I am thrilled to be in my home state.  So is Gumby.  We cannot wait to see a few of you as we cruise through!

Fires ahead!

  1. OK, that lodge looks like my type of camping! I still find it amazing how many really nice people you have met on this hike. It gives one a good feeling about people in general. Lou

  2. It is your type of place, Lou! Seems to have a rich history, too. And wonderful service ... even for the homeless types!
